Who We Are
This Privacy Policy applies to the Android app Connections
(package name com.kararnab.connections), available on
Google Play.
Connections is developed and published by ARNAB KAR, an individual developer based in India, under the Google Play developer name A Storyteller. ARNAB KAR is responsible for the app and for this Privacy Policy. In this policy, "we", "us" and "the developer" refer to ARNAB KAR. This policy is hosted on the developer's website, 1loom.com.
Data Collection
Connections does not collect any personal data from its users. The contact details and photos you add are stored locally on your device, in a database that is encrypted with a key protected by your device's Android Keystore. The app does not send this information to the developer or to any server, and does not share it with third parties. The developer has no access to your contacts.
The contacts database and its key are excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so they are not copied to your Google account backup by the app.
Permissions
The app declares the following permissions:
- Camera (optional): used only when you choose to take a photo for a contact or scan the QR codes of a paper backup. Images are processed on your device and are not uploaded.
- View network connections: added automatically by Android's camera library (CameraX). It only lets the app see whether the device has a network connection; it does not allow the app to connect to the internet.
- Reorder running apps: added automatically by an Android library included in the app. It is not used to collect or transmit personal data.
Connections does not have the Internet permission, so it cannot send your contacts or any other data over the internet.
The app does not request access to your device's address book, location, microphone, or SMS. If permissions that affect your personal data are introduced in the future, they will be disclosed in this policy and used only for their stated purpose.
Use of Contact Details
Contact details entered by users are used solely within the app for its intended functionality. This information remains on the user’s device and is never sold or shared with third parties by the developer.
Some features hand information to another app or service only when you choose to use them:
- Call, message, WhatsApp, email and share: the selected phone number, address or contact details are passed to the app you choose (for example your dialer, messaging app or WhatsApp). What that app does with the data is governed by its own privacy policy.
- Import: contacts are read only from a vCard file that you select.
- Paper backup: the app can create a printable QR-code backup of your contacts, optionally protected with a password you choose (encrypted with AES-256-GCM). The backup is generated on your device and is saved or printed only where you choose (for example a file location or a printer or print service you select). Anyone with the printed pages and the password, or the pages of an unencrypted backup, can read the contacts in it, so keep it safe.
- Report an issue: if the app has crashed, a technical error log (the error and stack trace) is stored on your device. When you tap "Report an issue", your email app opens with this log addressed to the developer. Nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself. Emails you send are used only to investigate and respond to your report.
- Donate: the donation link opens PayPal in your browser. The app does not receive any payment information.
Third-Party Services
Connections does not use any third-party analytics tools, advertising SDKs, or crash-reporting services, and does not include any external libraries that collect or transmit user data.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your contacts stay on your device until you delete them in the app, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Because the developer does not receive this data, there is nothing for the developer to retain or delete on your behalf. Paper backups you create remain under your control until you destroy them.
If you email the developer, your email and any error log it contains are kept only as long as needed to respond to you. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time using the contact below.
Security
Contacts are stored in an encrypted database whose key is protected by the Android Keystore on your device. Password-protected paper backups are encrypted with a key derived from your password (Argon2id). No method of storage is perfectly secure, so please also protect your device with a screen lock.
Future Features
The app does not currently include online backup or sync features. Such functionality may be added in the future. Any future features involving the storage or processing of user data outside your device will be described in an update to this policy before they are released, and will be protected using end-to-end encryption where applicable.
Age Restrictions
Connections is suitable for users of all ages. The app does not collect, transmit, or share personal data. Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise usage by minors where appropriate.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, regulatory, or operational reasons. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed. Users are encouraged to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the app after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
